VOICES IN THE WILDERNESS – US

The principle independent campaign group in the fight to lift sanctions from Iraq. Some of its’ members have been fined and jailed by US authorities for their continuing defiance of sanctions.

VOICES IN THE WILDERNESS UK

The British companion organisation to VITW - US.
It produces an excellent pamphlet six times a year.

CAMPAIGN AGAINST SANCTIONS ON IRAQ

This Cambridge University group produces excellent factual material about sanctions, as well as hosting conferences and visiting speakers like Denis Halliday. Widely regarded and respected as one of the most reliable and thorough organisations.

BRITAIN AGAINST SANCTIONS ON IRAQ

This Leeds University based group staged a week long series of lectures and conferences in May 2001, and is involved in many campaign htmlects.

THE MARIAM APPEAL

Founded by British MP George Galloway, its' name is taken from a young Iraqi girl, Mariam Hamsa, that Galloway brought back from Iraq for cancer treatment. They also drove a London bus all the way to Baghdad, receiving tremendous coverage
and support from all the countries they passed through.

WASHINGTON PHYSICIANS FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Associated with the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, WPSR were the organisers of the April 1999 delegation visit to Iraq with whom I travelled. Delegation leader Gerri Haynes wrote an excellent illustrated report about the trip, and there also some additional Iraq related links on their site.

THE INTERNATIONAL ACTION CENTER

Founded by former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark, this New York based organisation is tireless in its’ campaigns to reveal US complicity in wars all over the world, and attendant human rights violations. Clark set up the Independent Commission of Inquiry into the Gulf War, and headed a similar inquiry into the NATO attacks on Yugoslavia.

It should be noted that there is an opinion that this organisation has, at times, bent the truth a little in order to arouse greater concern. Their motivations, however well meaning, have cast doubts upon their integrity. Visit the site and judge for yourself.

THE SEATTLE POST INTELLIGENCER

Foreign Desk Editor Larry Johnson, and photographer Dan DeLong, travelled with the April 1999 WPSR delegation and produced some of the very best, and later award winning, newspaper coverage and images that have been published in the US so far. Their special editorial was re-printed and is available either on-line or as a hard copy.
